Actually don't throw away the landing gear parts - especially the skis
- and clean them up.  Those shapes aren't easy (although it can be
done) to scratch and cleaning up those kit parts isn't that difficult.

The only additional difficulty would be cleaning up the skis.  At least
with wheels you can clean in a circle. :-)
