Hi: Just returned from the UK nationals and am now vacationing in Essex, UK. Had a most excellent time. I arrived at the hotel around 4PM on Friday, and ran straight into Paul Thompson, who I'd never met but recognized instantly.Shortly after, I met Shane Weier, and Neil Crawford, and later about 9 of us sat down for dinner at the hotel. Others present included, Costas, Pedro Soares, Don Ralston, Nigel Rayner, Lance Krieg and Tom Morgan. last night the Czechs joined us - Marec and Slava (sp?), the latter of whom one the1/48th scale biplanes competition. Others also had success at the competition, including pedro and I think, Neil. It was an excellent time meeting up with those I'd met previously and those who I'd never met before. At the event, I met Hugh Beyts, Steve Cox, Peter Plattner and probably a couple of others who I cannot recall this second. The UK nationals is different from the US. Maybe a little bigger but the big difference is the number of club and SIG displays - loads of them. In contrast, the competition is relatively small - maybe only a few hundred models with far less emphasis than at the US, which I found a nice change. I find the rules for the UK competition a bit like the Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem in that no matter how many times I've had it explained to me, I cannot understand it. Anyhow, it was a really nice time and I recommend attending if you ever get the chance. And Telford will never be the worst place in England as long as Wolverhampton exists. Michael
