I don't suppose the Grateful Dead wrote Uncle Johns Band as a tribute to
your relations band. Just a thought!

Mike asked:

<Sorry Hugh will not be there till Friday. (Hugh, are you related to
Dickie, erstwhile guitarist in the Allman Bros. Band? Probably not but I
thought I'd ask.)>

No Mike, no relation. My name rhymes with gates though people have no
end of trouble spelling it and Betts comes up both as pronunciation and
spelling frequently. The only time and places it is correctly
pronounced and I don't have to spell it out are to the Dutch and in S
Africa. It's Dutch in origin so perhaps I'm immune to Dutch beer, I'll
have to test!

I am related to the bass guitarist in little known (now disbanded)
Scottish group "Uncle John & Whitelock" I am 50% Scottish but have not
developed an immunity to whisky despite years of trying. Nor gin come to
think of it.
