I'd go for an off-white, just to have the chance to show some variation in 
the rib positions with a slightly darker streak of darker colour. 100% White 
just plain kills any depth in a model

Because it was made of  special kind of fabric that were sold in those days 
as ladies undergarment material. I can't recall the exact name but it was 
quite specific. All the replica builders in 2003 had a though time trying to 
get something with the same characteristic. IIRC the fabric of the Flyer was 
given to someone in the town and they made dresses for their daughters with 
it.
