This is merely gut and goes with what was stated previously about CDL.
I would guess that pre-war the quality of the material used would have been quite good, therefore white. However, I would guess that it would dirty quickly, and I am not sure of teh chemistry of teh dope used, so couldn't tell you how quickly it would yellow. Therefore; brand new-white or a very pail cream. Older, maybe a slightly darker cream or light beige
