Who gives a toss what the seller gets, unless he's a friend of yours?
My suggestion was merely that it's not very nice to outbid a fellow listee.
Maybe he wants the kit badly but simply can't afford to pay as much as you.
It's kind of like dating your best buddy's ex-girlfriend. There is - or
should be - an unspoken gentlemen's agreement that you just stay away out of
respect for your friendship.
