[WWI] A question (maybe a silly one!)

Having received the Americal/Gryphon sheets there from the two Michaels, I've 
realised that i've never used these manufacturers decals before and they are rather
thicker than those i'm used to. I've experimented with some of the small detail
decals to find out what they are like going on and they don't stick so well.

Do I need to use decal solvent and if so is there any suggestions as to the best brand?
