[WWI] CDL wings

Along a similar vein, I remember eading an article, but for the life of me I cannot remember where, the modeler decicded he wanted to represent the tranlucent nature of teh wings. So on the undersurface he painted the registration that would appear on teh upper surface and then covered everything with CDL. It was brilliant.

A friend showed me how to produce "see-through" wings many years ago. His technique was simple:
1. Paint the wings in a light to medium grey, both sides.
2. Put thin strips of some kind of tape over the ribs.
3. Spray the wings CDL. He preferred a very white CDL, not the yellow that is typically seen.
4. Remove the tape and "dust" the grey areas with more CDL, just enough to "reshade" the grey.
The effect on his A-H flying boat was spectacular!
