[WWI] "hostage" feedback

BUmmer. Oh well, give him some negative feedback. Whatever that's worth.
This discussion caused me to go look at the feedback my account has been 
given over the years.
With a whopping ebay score of 7, I've got one negative, and that was 
retaliation from a seller(a large American retail outlet it seems) who was 
paid the 'buy it now' price for a hard to find DVD. After no sign of the 
item for 2 weeks, I made two attempts to contact seller though ebay channels 
with no reply, then tried again through paypal dispute channels,again with 
no reply. Just as it was getting close to the date that paypal would have 
been forced to give me a refund, the item showed up, 7 weeks after I paid 
for it. I gave negative feedback, simpy saying the seller refused to 
communicate at all when I tried to track the late package. The seller then 
gave me negative feedback, saying I gave him a negative without making any 
effort to communicate, then called me a 'beginner'.
Being only a buyer so far, why would I even care about such feedbacK? Am I 
in danger of having someone refuse to sell to me because of it? I can't 
imagine a more meaningless threat.
Another question: I think the only feedback I've ever given was that one 
negative. Don't think I've ever given positive, even when asked, simply 
because I've usually got better things to do with my time. I know these 
people who make their living selling on ebay want good ratings, but I figure 
no feedback from me can't hurt them, can it? Is silence somehow considered a 
negative?
If so, I'm even less interested in doing business on ebay. I feel getting my 
money is all the endorsment a seller should need. Why should I be forced to 
give personal testimonies of my experience too? If I'm expected to be a 
spokes-model, I want spokes-model pay.
