My first foray into modeling was when I was 5, model railroads. My first kit was an Airfix Sopwith Pup when I was 6, my second their Fokker Dr.1, and my third their Bristol Fighter. Never looked back after that. I have had the occasional stray into OT, but now the only OT I model, apart from railways, are interwar airliners and any and all flying boats and airships.

During the last trip, I flew 138 combat missions totaling 568 hours. Retired it 1988 and worked in the retail sales market for the next 20 years. The first 13 were with Squadron/MMD followed by CompUSA, and effective tomorrow, I will officially be unemployed for the first time in 42 years.
I started building models at the age of 5, and have not stopped since. I model in two areas. WWI, any subject (mostly aircraft in 1/72 scale) and then again in 1/72 scale anything flown by the U.S. between the wright Flyer and the Space Truck. I don't consider my self as a modeler per-se, but rather a 3 dimensional historian.

PS, I turned 61 last March.

Out of interest, how many in this group have seen combat, been in war, not served their country in peace-time.
Just to start off, I have.
The reason why I ask is that some other guys who served with me are also modellers and can be devided into two groups, those who will model war stuff, because, well, people do ask questions and it gives an opportunity to educate, and the second group who refuse point blankly to model anything military.
