[WWI] Granddads in No VA closing shop

That's the way it goes.
There is a model shop in my town and I go to him whenever possible for modeling supplies. He can order items for me if he is out and I can get them about as fast as if I mail ordered. Also, even with the tax the price is about the same.
I shop with him as often as possible just to help keep him in business so when I need something I can drop buy and get it right away.
Its the same problem we have with the small garage industries.
If we do not actively support them they just give up and go away. Look at Americal/Gryphon for example. Or ID Models and the other vacuform and resin kit makers who are no more.
Granted, perhaps these guys just had over-optimistic expectations and hoped that the market would support them.
Well, the reality is often that the market is just not there. How many decals and vacuform kits can we all buy considering the few models we actually make.
The big model manufacturers keep in business from sales to non-modelers - people who buy these as gifts kits for children and other relatives.
So there really is not much we can do when a local hobby shop closes their doors except wave a very sad goodbye.

Subject: [WWI] Granddads in No VA closing shop
Grandad's Hobby shop in Springfield is closing shop by end of next week and moving to West Virginia. I went there today and the store was practically bare. Very sad - it was a great and convenient source for spur of the moment emergency purchases - they carried a really wide inventory of modelling supplies. I guess they succumbed to the internet businesses, and I guess I contributed to it in a way because I went there only when I needed something in a hurry or was not available elsewhere.
I am told they plan to offer mail-order from WV.
regards
Sanjeev
