It's a good tome although do try to get a look before you purchase. It is
very extensive but a lot of the volume is what I regard as "padding", i.e.
lists of personnel, flight dispositions, locations at various times in the
war etc. Although this is useful reference, I personally prefer more
narrative concerned with descriptions of operations and discussion of the
aircraft used. There are lots of profiles, but these are reproduced quite
small and as they are painted rather than computer generated the quality is
not that high. There is a brief discussion of the markings and camouflage of
each aircraft type, but this is terse and short. So, for example, all
Hannovers are described as having painted lozenge fuselages. There is no
discussion of any overspraying in a dark colour, which is a well-known
theory, and if there is new research that debunks this it would be
interesting to hear why that is the case. Those that are familiar with the
work of Dan-San Abbott may be familiar with this authoritative approach.
Having said all of that, I am immensely enjoying reading and referring to
this book and was glad I got it but it is expensive. Caveat emptor.
Cheers,
