[WWI] radiators for the people

Eeh Guys!

You don't half make this scratch building stuff sound complicated.

Personally I don't think I'll bother, it sounds far too hard! Me? I'll
stick to kits!

For the record the radiator on my recently posted Pfalz DIIIa was
scratch built (literally) in a few minutes in situe but obviously before
the wing was glued in place. Life's hard enough as it is!
Unfortunately the photos are not too clear but it's fooled the judges a
few times in competition.

Using a p-cutter or similar etching tool the outer radiator is scored,
i.e. a rectangle. A square along the leading edge ensures that the fore
& aft edges are true. The inner rectangle is similarly scored. A scale
of evenly spaced lines is marked down one side in pencil, your sharpest
6H or use a bit of fine graph paper temporarily stuck along side.
Horizontal lines are etched on the inner rectangle using the scale to
get them equally spaced. Two thin strips of 5 thou or paper or foil,
(anything thin) are glued fore and aft to represent the strapping. Some
Contrail strut forms the header & small discs represent the filler cap
and relief valve. The underside can be represented the same way or left
plain as required. The fuel tank on the port wing is created in a
similar manner. Careful painting finishes the effect. Now invoke your
relative Robert.
