Ed,
First of all, do yo mean October 2008, and you just really like to plan ahead, or was your message delayed and we're getting this 2 months too late?
Assuming the first assumption, our own Brian Nicklas is associated with NASM.Ifyou've only got one day, I'd say skip the main museum and go to Udvar-Hazy. NASM on the mall is jam packed with too many walls and too many flatlander tourists, looking at displays that were designed to discourage photography. Udvar Hazy, when I was there, was peopled with me and Sanjeev and maybe a dozen other real airplane buffs who were spread out so thin that, well to give an exmple, at NASM, you have to wait for people to get out of the way to get a good picture, which is impossible because the displays were designed to prevent it. At Udvar-Hazy, Sanjeev and I had to wait until an innocent passer-by passed by to get a picture of us together in front of the Halbie, which is the other reason to skip NASM and go to U-H. That's where the Halberstadt and all or most of the WWI stuff is,(plus a bunch or other real cool off-topic stuff like a couple of sharp looking racers).
The only reason to go to NASM is to see the cute girl at the information desk that will call upstairs to let Brian know you're there, if you ask her to.
I guess you could always go see Brian too if you've got the time, as he's a nice guy and the path to his library is strewn with model airplanes.
Go to the WWI List site and find my photos from NASM and U-H and you'll see what I mean.
E.Paradise is exactly like where you are right nowonly much, much better.

Wasn't there someone on the list that is associated with the Air and Space Museum?
I will be in the Washington area in October for business and am thinking about arriving a day early so I can check it out.
Any opinions about the Museum Annex vs the one down town?
TNA,
Ed
