Hi James.
The fact that in both instances the same length is mentioned could indicate that it boils down to interpretation of the term side and top. However, it could also be that these are two different sized patterns and the similarity in size is merely chance. Or design.

Hmmm, I should be a politician. I have managed to cover every eventuality without actually helping in anyway.

Some research and study of photo's seem to point to the use of 2 sizes of naval hex (photo's of Albatros W4's are pretty obviously using the larger hex size when compared to most other naval hex covered airctraft). As with most things related to WWI colors, lozenge etc, there are differing opinions...I would suggest that you study a clear pic of whatever aircraft you wish to model and arrive at your best conclusion that suits you. For what it's worth, I firmly believe there were 2 sizes...but thats just my opinion.

I have a question about subject. I looking for correct size of German
marine lozenge. Some source say that the pattern measured 15
centimetres across the flat, some say that the side of hexagon measure
15 centimetres. And this is very significant difference. Which size is
correct?

TIA
