[WWI] Why change markings?

It might have had to do with teh fact that Britain used the Union Fllag as markings on its aircraft. I am not sure if there is a timing criteria here. But the Union Flag has two red diagonals that devide the blue quaters, hence at a glance the Union Flag might have appeared like the Iron cross.  
  Now, yes, yes, timing. but don't forget Germans love of burocracy; by the time they had finally got around to deciding on teh actual measurements, design, and got the clerk to collect all the required signatures, made sure the i's were dotted and t's crossed, Britain and change to the target circle.

  Probably was to expedite painting the cross, but it would be interesting to find the German document to verify this. Oh, if Peter Grosz were alive! I'll contact Leo Opdyke of WWI Aero and see if he has an answer.
