Dave Fletcher, thanks for the great information. I'm looking forward to more research on the sites you mentioned.
I spent an hour today looking at Vernon Castle leads online. I found
the naked statue of Irene Castle on her memorial to Vernon on the
Woodlawn site. She was a cutie...
Sorry Brad, I'm not in law
enforcement, so you must be thinking of someone else. I fix old British
sports cars (MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey etc.) for a living.

Irene Castle said that
Vernon bought a monkey named "Hallad" (for: "Hallad" be thy name) in
France and on his first night of leave in London left it in a box in a cold
hotel room and threw his overcoat over it to keep the animal warm. The
animal suffocated to death. This of course deeply bothered him for
some time after. "Jeffery" must have been a North
American replacement. Irene Castle makes no mention of
him.
