Hi there,
 
the model is actually glued to the building board using thin super glue.  
Here is a picture of my B-17 C project where you can see that the fuselage  
formers are glued to the board using 1/4" balsa uprights

It's alright using parts you don't need to keep when glueing a model to  the 
glass plate (like the B-17's uprights) which you can just break  away when 
you're done, but on the Pup I did put cling wrap on the  glass before I did the 
fuselage sides otherwise it would be impossible  to get them off again without 
breaking them. However, the glass plate can  easily be cleaned using a single 
sided razor blade.
 
The wingspars are also mounted on uprights (scaffolds, jigs? I can never  
find the right word for these parts) as you can see on this picture

I do my WW-1 wings the same way as they are slightly undercambered on  my 
WW-1 designs.
