Winged Victory by V.M. Yeates is a very thinly disguised memoir of the
author's time with 46 Sqdrn. Only the names have been changed to protect
the guilty. "Mad Mac" is the Canadian ace Don Mclaren. I'll leave it to
Bob Pearson to tell you about the Bandy Papers, not an actual memoir, but
they should be!

...for the record, at least 27 of Billy Bishop's victories were confirmed by
ground units. Some others were backed up by other pilots. Roughly half
were taken at his "word" when he was allowed to "hunt" alone. Like Voss'
cowl colour and MvR's vanquisher, we shall never really know.
