John makes an interesting point. Literature often mixes things up to make
it more interesting. The MASH movie had a lot of 1960s feel with the
haircuts and smoking dope during the football game.
Even Chaucer, combined behaviors and architypes from different historical
periods to create a story. In the Knight's Tale Arcite and Palamon are
supposed to be Greeks but the behavior is drawn from the knightly code of
chivalry in England during the Middle Ages.
