Did they really get out on the wing and work on them in the air?  Staakens,
obviously, since there was already someone out with the engine, but Gothas?

I think it happened with most multi-engined planes from all sides, if it was 
possible, and the alternative was the long dive Mostly bashing ice off with 
a hammer, probably. But Gothas specifically - don't know.
