[WWI] What Did Jenny Wear ?

       This is a stupid question, but I'm too lazy to look it up when I
know a lot of people here know this.
        I want to build a model of the JN-4 which still exists today
owned by Ray Folsom. It served as a trainer at March Field here in
California during 1918.
         The photos of the restoration show it wearing round star emblems
on its wings ( like Rickenbacker's SPAD wheels ). The Olymp kit comes
with the U.S. roundels as used in France.
           So which wing marking would be correct for a stateside trainer
in 1918 ( pre-Armistice ) ?
