What you say is true. Unfortunately I didn't bring my credit card with me. The reason being that here in Angola things are liable to go missing while walking around the streets. The kids here have rather quick hands and nimble fingers. he nice thing is that if they do liberate your cell phone, they give you back your sim card.
And besides, call me romantic, call me a fool, but when it comes to sending Christmas presents, I am one of those who tend to shove some a little extra in with the gift. Personalise it so to speak. If the guy is nice, he will get something good with his socks, if not, he might get a piece of fish.
As it is I will be ordering the gift online as our hobbyshops in Cape Town do not carry that great a variety. Tamiya is a big favourite. Pity they do not produce WW1 models.

And not to back off from my statement about being happy to gt a late
present, but from a practical standpoint, it doesn't have to happen that
way. This is the age of the internet. If you've got a connection and a
credit card, you can always place an order online and have it sent directly
to your Santee. In some cases, this makes more sense anyway. Let's suppose I
draw Grumpy Shane's name as my Santee. I would most likely just place an
order with Sandal Hobbies in Australia and pay Lorna a little extra for some
nice giftwrap and put Shane's address on the mailing lable. This would
reduce the risk of Shane's 1/72 F-4 Phantom(which is what he deserves for
being such a grump) :-) getting lost or damaged going around the globe in
the mail.
The down side to this is that it negates the chance to go sticking other
assorted non-modeling related bonus goodies in the package, which some
listeroos have been known to do. (Ask Michael Kendix about the packing
material that came with his present from Dame K.
Just food for thought.
As for me, now living in a town where there isn't a hobby shop worth spit,
if I draw the name of someone outside of the US, this is probably how I'll
choose to handle things. And any other assorted non-modeling related bonus
goodies will be sent as a seperate package.
