O.K. - I did some more searching around while awaiting the arrival of the 'Albatros Fighters' Datafile Special.
I did indeed find a photograph of an Albatros D.V that was overall silver-grey except for it's metal parts. The metal parts on the aircraft look to be green. It looks very much like what I would imagine the mottle schemed aircraft would look like without it's green mottling. The image is on the earlyaviators-dot-com website.
Please don't go visit that website unless you have good protection for your computer. My computer warned me of problems as soon as I went to that site.
One thing I will try to do (since it seems plausible that Eduard may be correct) is ask Eduard directly to see if they can provide some information on the subject aircraft. I am sure they are busy these days, but it couldn't hurt to try.
Before I get too bogged down in guess work, how many photographs of Gontermann's green mottled Albatros are there? I have the front-left-quarter view photo in the Osprey Albatros Aces book. Are there other views of the plane? I can not find a copy of the 'Albatros D.V' Datafile anywhere (just the later 'Albatros Fighter' Special which is a different book) - are there photo's of it in the Albatros D.V Datafile? If so, how can I gain access to them?
