[WWI] Roundel help needed

Typical British proportions at the time were red 1, white 3, blue 5, though
local variations were common. Typically the white outline was added outside
the blue - usually this was about 1-2" wide

While it's not an invariable rule it seems that the size was based on a
working outwards using a reasonably round measurement for the red center
rather than working in from a specified outer diameter - for example 12"
diameter for the red gives outer diameters for white 36" and blue 60":
However as markings were often hand painted "diameter" can often be an ideal
rather than a reflection of true circularity...

French machines in RFC or RNAS service often had the roundels painted in
French proportions - 2:4:6 - and of course the dimensions would have been
in metric rather than imperial units

Hope this helps

There are almost no decals available for WWI roundels in the 2 to 6 inch
diameter range. There just isn't a significant market for them. That leaves
R/Cers on their own when it comes to markings. Many plans show them and even
I can measure diameters and cut discs of decal paper, but often they are not
shown.

I tried measuring a 1/48 decal and determining a factor by which to multiply
by. Nope, didn't work.

In the past I have heard roundels referred to by their proportinate widths
of color rings. Can anyone tell me how that works? I seem to remember
different proportions as well as different colors and color orders for
different nationalities. I could sure use those proportions, especially for
RFC roundels. Bear in mind I am mathematically challenged.

Thanks
