Well I had a good time. I met up with Costas, George and Paulo at the
competition tables, they came away with silver and bronze, and IIRC a
commended. The gold went to a 32nd scale Morane. There was a Lloyd on
the
table which looked suspiciously like the one there last year, but on a
different base.
I put in my Grain Kitten in the 72nd scale class, and got a 'Could do
better'. I was happy with that. I felt that there weren't so many models
on
the competition tables this year
It was good to meet with fellow listees and exchange greetings, a
certain Halbastadt and chat.
Steve may I put your suspicions at rest: that particular Lloyd has not
been to the Nationals before; it's mine. I have to confess the base has
been before, it was under my Pfalz IIIa last year which did somewhat
better than the Lloyd.........nothing.
That was not the end of my disappointments, the Senior Best In Show was
a Southampton MkI. It took the builder 9 months. When he won last year
with a Stranraer I breathed a sigh of relief, my project was safe. But
he heard! I offered to break his arms and poke his eyes out which he
took in the light hearted manner in which it was given :-) I agree with
Nigel that perhaps the Heyford was a better model marginally but the
Southampton has a real wow! factor.
Mine is still at the improving the resin rough cast fuselage stage (from
scratch) I reckon 2-3 more years. I have been distracted by OT subjects
but the seat will fit nicely.
Things however took a distinct upturn on Tuesday evening when the Lloyd
won Thames Valley Club's annual completion (1:48th class). Eligable
models have to have won their class in one of the monthly competitions.
It went on to become club champion seeing off at least one Nats Gold
(ot) winner in the process!
