Hi Mike,
I know that at our local contest (and a couple of others I have attended) there are a bunch of "special" awards, such as most creative. I have seen some equally strange WW2 stuff, but this is the first WW1 item I have seen like this. If we were judging this at our local contest, there are several things that would have to be considered, namely quality of build (all parts straight and true, no gaps or glue marks, etc) Also historical accuracy would come into play if the build quality was equal to the competition. As a judge I would try to get the builder to move his aircraft from the rigged aircraft category to the scratchbuilt/conversions category, where most of these bizzare types are usualy found, and where they have a better chance of winning usually.

Mike:
I didn't say I hoped that - that was Buz responding to his own posting:).
As for Lance's question - as to whether the inaccuracy would lead to its
being downgraded or tossed, I don't know. I do judge and my tendancy is to
leniency in this regard since I regard the whole thing as mainly an art
form. I would hope that the entrant did indeed specified this as a "What
if" on the entry sheet. If so, I would feel comfortable allowing it to
compete in either rigged or miscellaneous. Those accuracy maniacs - you
know who you are:) - might disagree.
Michael
