Jim asks:

"What's wrong with the kit decals? Why would someone need to buy the
Techmod ones?"

Speaking purely for myself, I NEVER build the kit-supplied airplane,
figuring that most folks will select one of those options and there will
be an over-abundance of identical planes.

Instead, I select the plane I want to build from the historical
photos/profiles available and then set about figuring out how to supply
the markings I need.  If there is an aftermarket decal, great!  If not,
then part of the fun is solving this problem.

And boy, has it been quiet around here!  Where is everyone?
