 Very cool, T.O.M. !
I just happen to have in my possession the ultimate resource for
the D.Va- NASM Aircraft series No. 4- just crammed with structural
drawings, detail shots and color photos .
The bulkhead behind the seat is a hollow oval with an 'X' inside it
, but covered with a canvas web on the forward side , so that is what you
would see. The web is solid except for a small arched opening near the
bottom to allow the control cables to pass.
In the color photo of their restored D.Va, it looks to be grey-green
in color.

The Revell kits were so much more exciting than Airfix offerings.
They came in colors, most of the rotaries rotated and the pilots did not
look like emaciated aliens. And the Revell box art - breathtaking . I
felt so sorry for that German crew with their Rumpler crumpling beneath
them.....
