Only if they realize what you started from. As Diego said, if you do one
for which a new kit has been issued, you can't win, because an excellent
job will be mistaken for the newer kit, and a less than perfect job will
make people wonder how you could butcher the Roden or Eduard kit so badly.
Then there are the ones who don't know much about the hobby, and so they
don't know anything about what you started with.
Sigh, it is a horrible cross we bear....
