I have a bunch of old kits that I bought before the current rush of NEW
kits. The new kits are so much better, but I found that if I want a
challenge on basic modeling techniques I tend to build to old kits and
see what I can come up with.
What I found is that the older kits are a great platform to use
to learn basic scratchbuilding techniques in small discrete quantities,
such as putting ribbing on wings or fuselage detais. I only have one
complete model at home (My scratchbuild DH10) as I give all the others
to Chino Planes of Fame if they are unique enough for their collection.
Now that I think of it, I can't remember the last Eduard or Roden kit I
have built...mmmm...perhaps I am falling behind.
