Terry asks:
"How does the "Aurora" Jenny match up?"
It is inferior in all respects, having the same 1960s shortcomings as
the Lindberg kit, and none of the virtues.
" How does the building of the old collectable kits i.e. (Aurora,Renwal
and others) resonate with the group! Are they too inaccurate?"
I built several Aurora kits in the 80s when there seemed no hope of
ever seeing modern versions, and it is definitely do-able, even for
someone afflicted with acute AMS. But an attempt to create a real scale
model from such a starting point is quite a handicap, and there would be
more satisfaction in scratchbuilding, I believe. Comparing my
Halberstadt CL.II or Nieuport 11 to the OOB versions available today
reveal how much easier it would be to create the same model with a
modern kit.
But this issue is related to the Voss floatplane in the respect that
they raise the question: "What is the builder trying to accomplish?"
Since my goal is always the same - the most accurate and complete
representation of a REAL plane I can achieve - I will never see the
attraction in hypothetical machines or sadly inaccurate kits, however
cheap.
But I AM mindful of the fact that they are all toy airplanes, so what
the hell....
