Rear Vent Wings?  When I was in my early 20's I had a 10 Year old BMW 2002.
Used to drive on the highway in the summer with front vent windows (remember
those?) open and the rear vent windows open, freash air open and the side
windows closed worked very well.

Had my cassette deck to overcome the wind noise.  Ah, Life on Mars...

actually mileage was very good, maybe the open rear vent wings helped ...

Yep. Rule of thumb is 40/4: If you're going less than 40mph, then roll all 4
windows down. Over 40mph, roll em all up and crank up the AC.
