I spoke with John and his wife, Patt, last night (Thursday). He is still in
the hospital but hopes to be discharged on Friday. The procedure went well
and the spinal fluid issue is over with. He was able to do some walking.

>I thought y'all'd like to to know the news on Huggins. This was e-mailed
>to all North Central Texas IPMS members about an hour ago: "John had
>surgery at Zale Lipshy University Hospital on Monday. It was a very long
>session, lasting 8 hours. There were no major complications, for which we
>are all thankful. There was some leakage of spinal fluid, apparently from
>the stress of the disk hernia against the spinal cord. It caused the wall
>of the spinal cord to thin, allowing the leakage. The doctors are not
>concerned, and feel it will heal now that the irritation is gone. John now
>has some pins and plates in his back but at least the pain should be a
>thing of the past now.
>If you wish to talk to John, he is in room 530. Visiting hours are from
>8am - 8pm. Zale Lipshy is at 5151 Harry Hines Blvd. It's more or less the
>hospital district, with St. Paul, Parkland, Childrens and the Southwest
>Medical School all right there with Lipshy. The main phone number for the
>hospital is 214-590-3101. John's room number is 214-590-3530."
>Marc Flake (who's not an NCT IPMS member, but still gets the e-mails)
