Nieuport 17, Revell 1/72nd scale ( Alberto Casirati ). The model is based on the classic 1/72nd Revell kit. Scratchbuilt parts included the upper fuselage forward decking, the interior details, the rudder, all struts, ribbing and the Vickers gun, together with smaller details. Wings' sweepback was corrected and the upperwing openings added. The engine cowling was reworked with a modelling drill, which was also used to add the typical cooling vents. Engine and wheels from Aeroclub, airscrew from a real laminated wood Camel prop by Martin Digmayer. Rigging is stainless steel wire, applied with thinned white glue. The model reproduces one of Capt. Francesco Baracca's mounts. Capt. Baracca was Italy's "Ace of aces" and totalled 34 confirmed victories before being shot down and killed in 1918. See his page on the WW1 site for more info.

Nieuport 17, Testor's 1/48th scale ( Charles Duckworth ). I built this acouple of years ago and it's a redone Testor's Nieuport with Aeroclub white metal engine and machine guns, bottom wing was lengthened, top wing redone and fuselage modified to match GA drawings in the Datafile. Tom's Model Work's interior was also used.
This model represents a naval Nieuport 17 with Escadrille N.313 based at Dunkerque. The hawk was hand painted and the French anchor came from an old Almark decal sheet. Reference for this model is in Nieuport Fighters of WWI by J. M. Bruce on page 28 photo 51 Tapes over the rib stations were hand painted using drafting tape as a guide.

Nieuport 17, ESCI 1/72nd scale ( Erik Pilawskii ). Considerably re-built 1:72 ESCI Nieuport N.17, Ctpn. Varre of Escadrille N.25, 1917. The wing was cut in half and extended with sheet plastic, while also adding sweep-back. Lower wings received similar treatment. The Lewis and LeRhone rotary are both Rosemont parts, but the gun mounting is entirely scratch-built, as is the rudder and tail skid unit (out of card stock). For the aluminum dope finish I used a mixture of PollyS Gloss Aluminum with a touch of Med. Grey and and artist's color called "Gloss Pearl". The cowling and metal panels are PollyS Flat Aluminum.

Nieuport 17, Eduard 1/48th scale ( Paul Schwartzkopf ). Eduard's 1/48 Nieuport 17 built up out-of-the-box, using kit decals for Guynemer's aircraft. Testors Model Master Aluminum was used as the color. A drafting pen was used to highlight the control surfaces and other appropriate areas. Wing ribs, edges, etc. were highlighted using a Gunmetal water color pencil.
