Breguet 14 Differences

The two major types of Breguet 14's - the A.2 and the B.2 - were each developed with a specific mission in mind. The A.2 was primarily recconaisance, while the B.2 was a bomber. However, as with everything in war, both performed the others' duties. The A.2 was designed and built first - production starting in approximately March 1916 - and because of the "lessons learned", the B.2 was built to provide a better machine. Not only were there differences between the two types, there were also differences within the production of each type. The following list explains the major differences.

Early 14 A.2

Early 14 B.2

As the production of the Breguet 14 approached the end of the war, it was more difficult to distinguish between the A.2 and the B.2 since the B.2 no longer had the side windows nor the wing flaps. The only way to be sure of the difference is to look at the rigging of the undercarriage.
