Hello Margaret & Co, With regards to Walter Hinchliffe, it was "The Airman
Who Would Not Die" that brought him to my attention. I must
admit if it had not been for a local member urging me to read a paper back
copy he brought along to a meeting some years back, I may never have. I also
recommend John Fuller's book to members. "Above The Trenches" mentions
Hinchliffe's life had been the subject of a film based on the book, "The
Ghost Of Flight 401" but I have seen neither so cannot comment.
Thank you 'Capt Bigglesworth' for the write-ups of Hinchliffe in
both peace and war. Keep up the interesting items, it would be a long
winter without having this site to look into. Regards John B.

Hi Nick,

I too was inspired to 'find out more' after pivking up a second hand copy of
John Fuller's book 'The Airmen who would not Die' in Manchester several
years ago one lunchtime. It had some decent pctures of R101 in it!

Thee are no photos of Hinchlife in the book, the only one I have seen is
rather a poor reproduction of him with Elsie MacKay, prior to their ill
fated Atlantic Crossing, this was in a book, the title of which was
something like 'Between the Wars - A Photographic History' - it was a
reproduction of a Daily Express book of the period - and the modern version
appeared in County Bookshops and similar remainder bookshops a couple of
years back.

Although I have not followed it it, I expect that there would probably be
some decent illustations in 'Illustrated London News' of the time - or
Flight / Aeroplane. I have no copies of these for 1928 - possibly come of
the discussion group may have

I have a few more notes about Hinch, including the name of his dog!
He had two daughters, who are mentioned in John Fuller's book ... now if we
could find them I am sure they would have some photos

I would be a most interesting story to see in print

Cheers for now, more research to plough on with
