The sale of WWI aero kits had a boost with films like the BLUE MAX. My generation were hooked by AIR STORIES, FLYING, POPULAR FLYING and US pulp magazines and of course all the Hollywood WWI aviation epics, criticised by our enlightened society today, but the Zeppelin sequence in HELL'S ANGELS apart from the British nightfighters flying in formation! stands up well to the test of time. Here I go starting to wander down memory lane again. Getting back to modellers, if it had not been for aeromodellers forming the Essex Chapter of the US C&C we might not have had a Society today. By the time the US C&C went under, we fortunately had grown into C&C GB. I for one raise my hat to the original US Society that showed us what could be done and raise it again to the Lads that present todays International Journals, well done all those men. Before I wind in my aerial, can I add Leut Karjus of Jasta 11 to the list of handicapped pilots of WWI, this lad flew with a metal hook in place of his left hand. One source credits him with II victories.
