Yesterday I asked about Junkers D.I's used in the Russian Civil War. Quite by accident I ran accross this in "Stamping Out the Virus": "Lietenant Gottshard Sachenburg was a former naval pilot of the Kaiser's army and had shot down more than 30 British aircraft, this regiment also had such celebrated aces as Joseph Jacobs and Teodor Osterkamp. The "Sachenburg" command counted upwards of 50 experienced pilots and observers. Its 30 crews flew the newest all-metal monoplanes of the Junkers D.I and Cl.1 types. The regiment also had the very well proven wooden biplanes, like the Halberstadt, DFW, LVG, Rumpler, Fokker D.VII and D.VIII types." I paraphrase: The all metal Junkers were exclusive to the Germans. During 8 months of front line service there was not one air battle. Just ground attacks and observtion. Only two were lost. One to engine trouble, the second just wore out. Both were abandoned by the Germans in late 1919 and taken to Moscow by the Reds for careful study. So, maybe there is a case for Matt building the Eduard kit with Red Stars. Also ironic, I was reading how the British were supplying their troops thru the port of Basra and through Bagdhad into Russia. Later!
