In 72nd, who could tell? Anyhow, run out to Staples or some other office supply house and pick up a bottle of Post-It Note glue. Xerox your instructions to make masks. Apply the Post-It Note glue, orient the masks, and spray away. The Post-It glue is great. Tacky enough to stay on the model (unless you paint at 90psi) and it won't pull up anything when you remove it. I've even used it over lozenge decal. Try *that* with masking tape. Good luck! For just starting out, this is a perfect lens for most model photography. <<>> Not exactly true. A macro lens is a very valuable tool for detailed model photography (and yes, I shoot all of my SLR pics with an 80-205 macro zoom lens), but they are quite expensive. I recommend instead getting a close-up lens set that will fit your 50 mm lens. These only cost about $10 each and are sold in varying diopters (i.e. 1X, 2X, etc). I recommend getting a 1X and 2X, that allow you to reduce the distance of the camera to the model (for the lens you are looking at, these would allow you to get 22 cm and 11 cm from your subject). That's plenty close for detail shots. <<>> Absolutely incorrect. You want the smallest aperture you can get to increase depth of field. This is critical for modeling purposes and is a huge difference from the requirements of most types of macrophotography. For an SLR it should at least have an aperture of F22, for a digital it should have an aperture of F11. <<>> False. The image capture area does indeed play a factor, as it does affect the depth of field (along with a host of other factors). This is why a digital camera with a CCD array of 1.6X smaller (a typical array found in most cameras) has at F11 and equivalent depth of field as an SLR at F22. This is a complex relationship though and also depends on the focal distance (among other parameters). Of course my main question is, rather than worry about lenses and such, why don't you just purchase a digital camera with a macro capability and save yourself a load of money and ease of operation and not worry about switching lenses? HTH & YMMV ----------Bob ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2003 11:35:07 -0500 From: SSH To: Subject: RE: Camera questions Message-ID: <20030320163727.9C4E5690C06@mail.mailsnare.net> Bob, Thanks a load for the definitive answers!!!. You have helped me make up mind. Michael Kendix too recommends close-up lenses. The effect of the frame size multiplier on the field of depth sounds like a bonus. The reason for switching to an SLR is quite off-topic. I am upgrading to an SLR for a family member who has me wrapped around her little finger - but I also want to ensure that my OT photography can benefit from this upgrade. I currently own an olympus c2000 which is 2 megapixel and zooms from 7 to 21 mm. I am hoping to get better results with the SLR. Working on the nose right now .. got a very basic engine done from when I thought it was due in three weeks. Picked up a pile of aluminum from the local propoganda shop and am still waiting on the fabric and plywood to arrive. There's > even a > VC descendant amongst us in our list! > He was killed on the first day of the Battle of Arras, Easter Monday 1917. He was with the 10th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Although not on the CWGC commemoration, he was 29 at the time, father of 5 boys (the youngest born only a week before he was killed. He knew, because we have a telegram from him. I have so far little details of his war service - a trip to the A&SH Museum to view the Regimental Day book is on the cards (It will probably only record that so many other ranks had been killed that day) - next step will be a copy of his military death certificate. I don't know if he was a conscript or a voulnteer - anyone know wehn the UK started conscription? His death record in here: http://www.cwgc.org.uk/detailed.asp?casualty=585656 Nothing spectacular, just another PBI killed in action. This request may seem strange but I will crave your indulgence and pray that you view it seriously. My name is Col. Victor Aloma of the Democratic Republic of Congo I am one of close aids to the formal president of Congo Democratic LAURENT KABILA of blessed memory, may his soul rest in peace. For the military of LAURENT KABILA to force out the rebles in my country, I was instructed by him (late president Kabila) to go to the Europe to purchase ARMS AND AMMUNIATION worth us$15.5(fifteen million Five Hundred Thousand us Dollars) to fight the reble groups. But when it became ap! parent that president Kabila has been killed in a bloody shoot out by one of his aids. I immediately decided to divert the fund ( US$15.5) into a private security company for safe keeping. The money is presently in Holland (The Netherlands) where I am currently in exile after the death of president Kabila. I need a reliable and trust worthy foreign partner/national who can assist me to clear and move this money as the beneficiary from the security company. Though we have not seen nor met each other, but I would want this transaction to be properly handled with modesty and honesty to a huge success within two weeks, this money in question is state fund as it is a deal between you and I, hence the need for secrecy considering the security implications. Thus, if you are willing to assist me to move this fund out of the Netherlands, you can contact me onthe above email addres to enable us discuss more about the deal and what your percentage will be for assisting me. Please note that you will be required to make a brief trip to the Netherlands for inspection of the fund. I also intend to visit your country soonest in order to inquire areas of possible business investment. For your assistance, you will be given 25% of the entire fund and 2% will be set aside to settle any expences incured in the transaction while the remainning 73% will be for me. I shall be sincerely glad if my request is rendered. Kindest Regards, COL. I used it to mask of the upper camouflage on my Il-2 and had to cut it whilst it was on the model, leaving slight indentations. I really cannot cut that stuff to a definite shape.
