Diego Glad you like the render. My apologise for the current state of that tech notes section. It still needs a lot of work. But, i hope it might be of some use to anybody interested in this type of work. will have it revised soon ;-) BTW - lots of good tutorials out there for 3DS Eric Thanks The Camel was always intended to be an "External features only" kind of model. But I did decide to input some cockpit details. and then it kinda started to grow ;-) Can't vouch for the exactness because most of it is just eyeballed from photos, but it might be of some use to modelers. I also still need to input the constantinesco interupter gear for the Vickers, which might also be of some use. BTW - sent this note out to Eric about 2 hours ago - but I think it got lost somewhere - will probably show up in a week or so ;-) Mark ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Mar 2003 08:37:45 -0800 From: "Bob Pearson" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: new render Message-ID: <104714361701@smtp-1.vancouver.ipapp.com> "I hate you" Very nice stuff ... as soon as I get around to it I plan to get at least one of the Albatros prints you sent framed. I still haven't got it :-(. But there is a nother good competition coming up in September. So if Brent could send it to Dave, he'd enter it in Scotland and then he'd send it to me for me to enter it at Oporto in September.... If Brent, on the other hand has already mailed it to me, I'd forward it as soon as I get it to Dave and then Dave would send it abck to me again.... Brent, are you there, mate? I'm in the midst of building a Proctor Camel (1/6th scale), building for display, not to fly. So far, so good, said the man as he plummeted past the 20th floor. Question is on the aileron control horns and cables. In many pictures, I see the wire going from the wing to the control horn and then to the back of the aileron, where it seems to go into the wire that connects the ailerons top and bottom. In a significant number of others, it just goes from the wing to the control horn. The wire connecting the ailerons is a separate matter. Are both correct? Or are the pictures off, or the extension of the wire not showing up? If both are correct, what is the significance of the difference? Okay, that's three questions. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jeff Roby Jersey City (201) 656-3267 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Mar 2003 13:07:30 +0000 From: "Michael Kendix" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Twobobs new policy - who wins and who loses Message-ID: Though not specific to WWI modelling, I would think the topics of product quality and availabilty are of interest to any modeller. So, Hyperscale has a link to Twobobs site with its new stated policy on its product sales conditions at: http://64.124.220.115/twobobs/distribution.htm I think folks should consider this issue carefully. It's a complex issue but my consumer-oriented gut-feeling is that consumers will end up paying more out of their pocket for less product. On the other hand, it would probably lead to more variety of product and perhaps better quality. I have some sympathy with some storefront vendors - it's true that a lot of consumers "free ride" by going there to look at products then ordering the product for less on line (Hold your hand up if you've never done it!). On the other hand, E-business gets the product to more people than would otherwise have access. So, if you live 200 miles from a storefront vendor, you'll have to order from Twobobs direct or from someone who has both a storefront and mail order. Either way, the customer ends up paying the mark-up that is required to maintain a storefront overhead. It amounts to little less than retail price maintenance - price fixing. The gist seems to be 'we want to protect the small hobby shop from the evil distributors, so we'll only sell to those who sell from shop fronts and charge what we say. In the UK, they'd probably be open to an anti-competitive practices charge for openly stating such a policy (that you won't sell to people who charge less than your MRP). Can't beleive the US doesn't have similar laws . That said, TwoBobs decals are probably the best I've seen, just wish they liked 1/72nd OT stuff! I doubt that I will ever order enough for him to even meet the minimum for an account with TwoBob's, and there simply isn't enough local business in after market decals and such to make it worth his while to stock them as other than a special order item. By not going through the distribution chain I wonder how many smaller hobby shops will be unable or unwilling to stock or carry TwoBob's decals. In the end I suspect it will be the very small storefront hobbyshops that TwoBob's is trying to protect who will lose out. Pity. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Mar 2003 14:21:08 +0000 From: "Michael Kendix" To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: Red's my colour! Also the dog looks pretty good. Is there a fair amount of detail issing from the red plane's wings' underside? In general, I like these photos because they give you a view, however imperfect, of what it was really like. Looking at monochrome gives an air of unreality to me. Colour makes them look like real people and real machines. Michael _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Mont Blanc started it, only selling through their own boutiques, and "bricks and mortar" dealers. The dealers could advertise online, but are not allowed to give prices. I have heard Omas has done this as well, and Parker will not let authorized retailers discount. As Dave stated, I haven't seen anything from TwoBobs for teeny-weenies anyway. Do they produce anything for Duplo-scale? Stuart L. Malone At 09:06 AM 3/9/03 -0500, you wrote: >Quoting Michael Kendix : > > > > > I think folks should consider this issue carefully.
