I broke a couple of parts on my first kit (that's right, first kit, and I realize several hundred more req'd before you begin to master the art) and I removed the elevators and ailerons. The experience was quite new to me, but through it I gained more confidence. Second kit, (Pfalz D.IIIa) broke a couple of parts, no sweat. Ground off all of the external access ports, and the upper wing radiator in prep for Eduard's PE set. And removed the control surfaces. I figure building a Vac will only improve my ability to scratch parts, enhance basic kits, and improve my skills even more! Time is the greatest factor right now! I have not seen any reference to the fact that the engine's emissions and staining tend to be deposited on the forward side of the fuselage formers, and so create a pattern, even when the fabric sides return to their "at rest" state. This phenomenon has been discussed, I am sure, in one of the Fokker anthologies, by Dave Roberts. And so it would appear that even an in-line engined craft may exhibit this characteristic. I thought a tripod might be a necessary investment until I used the cheapskate's way of doing things. I photograph my models on my work desk and place the camera on a pile of CD jewel cases, allowing me to easly get varying heights. I find that sticking the camera temporarily in place to the top CD case with a couple of blobs of Blu-Tack (not sure what you guys would call that down there) and then using the timer to take the photo eliminates all shakiness without the need for a tripod (which I would never use, as model photos are the only "serious" photos I take). On the posting question, I would post the photos that you feel happy with. It's your model and you want us to be able to see all the hard work you've invested in it. If the photos don't do it justice, you might feel disappointed. Mind you, I use a digicam, so if the photos don't turn out well it's no hassle to redo them. I guess this may be more of an issue if you've gone to the effort of having traditional film developed. BTW, I just checked your gallery on the site and I think your DV photos are pretty good.
