BTW the part of Ireland I was in does look like a war rolled over it recently, but that's normal for the west coast of Clare in the winter (cue OT folk songs, etc). Knut, I can't get to the museum in the near future but if anyone need captions translated from Flemish I can do that at least. As my friend Fred Liefferinck, I live in Belgium (near Brussels). I was a member of IPMS Brussels (but for some reasons that I can't explain here by respect for one member of this club, I say Good Bye to this one). These last two years, I was too busy with my little boy (3 1/2 years), my family and my professionnal obligations. But now, I come back and I can tell to you that, in a near future, new pictures shall be adding on my site. In the meantime, take a look on my site. I have a lot of pictures from the Nieuport 17 (in fact a Ni 23) under restoration. Philippe Spriesterbach http://users.skynet.be/fa233213 -----Message d'origine----- De : wwi@wwi-models.org [mailto:wwi@wwi-models.org]De la part de Knut Erik Hagen Envoyé : mercredi 19 février 2003 19:43 À : Multiple recipients of list Objet : [WWI] Brussels visited Hei, Then I am back from visiting Brussels and the "Royal Museum of the Army and Military History" - with some 16 rolls of exposed film and 100+ digital images. The WW2 part of the museum appears to being in the process of refurbishing, so it was easier for me to concentrate on the WW1 part of the exhibitions. All WW1 aircrafts on view are displayed on the galleries, some are only bits and pieces as they are being refurbished. They are overlooking a large hall with more modern aircraft which are in the process of being covered by flaking paint as the building wasn`t in the same good shape as most of the aircraft. It is definitely a museum to visit for those interested in WW1 aircraft, some of the aircraft are unique and even if it is difficult to look into the aircraft as all of them have the front facing the visitors, they are valueable as some have not been recovered. I am quite sure at least one of the German aircraft has its original faded lozenge fabric. Even if the aircraft display is impressive, the display of artillery, uniforms and vehicles from WW1 is by far the largest I have ever seen. There are two very large rooms with what must be almost every kind of weapon fired during WW1, from small mortars to the large siege guns. It is possible to look inside both the small French tank, the Whippet and the large British male tank and take photos. The uniforms displays have even figures representing Czech, Polish, Portugese and Japanese troops. With so many photos and me leaving from Brasil on Monday, I am hoping for someone who is willing to take over the photos of guns and tanks and make them available for the list on the web with proper captions. (Bob Horton, are you familiar with the collection in Brussels?) So I hope more list members will be able to visit the museum, a basic understanding of French would probably be helpful as the captions are bi-lingual in Belgian versions of French and Dutch. In a very near future (maybe this WE), I'll receive a lot of pictures from Fred and his autorization to publish them. As soon as I receive them, they'll be published on my site. Wait and see ;-) Philippe -----Message d'origine----- De : wwi@wwi-models.org [mailto:wwi@wwi-models.org]De la part de Mike Muth Envoyé : jeudi 20 février 2003 2:44 À : Multiple recipients of list Objet : [WWI] Brussels TRip Philippe I hadn't seen your photos before. They are great! How far along are they on finishing the Nieuport? I've visited the museum twice now and each time was disappointed that it wasn't on display. ;-(( Mike Muth ----- ------------------------------ End of WWI Digest 5027 **********************
