Unless you have something like Post-it notes to use as the mask. Just about any tape will lift the decal and you may have some hidden low-hold area under it that will start a major lift-off. You might try some of the other stand-by methods, like wet paper or parafilm, but I would feel like a man in a sensitive minefield wearing snowshoes to use any tape on lozenge decals. This is especially true of the more delicate decal brands - Eagle Strike, for example. .Mark. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2003 4:05 PM Subject: [WWI] masking paint + masking lozenge > >Matt Bittner writes: > > >Funny that I don't have the problems others do, and I use > >acrylics. > > I get about the same results with acrylics as described by Matt, except that I usually first apply a neutral-colored prime coat to surfaces that will require masking (also helps me find all my 257 flaws). It will not pull up Loz. If it isn't available, brush an extra coat or two of Future over the Loz where the masking will be stuck. Let the Future dry real hard at least a day before sticking de-tacked tape on it. If loz pulls up, stick it back down with Future asap before any pieces crumble off. I prime before applying loz decals and apply them with a little future on the surface to help stick them down. hth sp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Feb 2003 17:19:32 -0600 From: BRENT THEOBALD To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: Re: masking paint + masking lozenge Message-ID: <1c26f41c4ad0.1c4ad01c26f4@icomcast.net> Howdy Myles, Yikes! The fun part will be attaching them all. The join between the wing panels will be fairly weak, so I'm going to have to trust to the rigging to actually support the wing. I was planning to do long sub-spars that stuck out from the otter wing panels and that would fit in corresponding slots in the centre section. . I figured if I made these spars long enough they would be almost strong enough to support the weight of the wing. ... so obviously I forgot to drill the holes for the subspar in the first wing panel. . so I will only be able to get the drill to reach the first few ribs to affix them. However I can lift it at the first and third rib and it is horizontal, so I guess (hope) it will be strong enough. Sometime in the next few days I'll move it into the bandroom (only room big enough) and photograph all the components in place. .. then we'll really get an idea as to the size of it. The one on the Roden D.VII Late that I did in Soviet markings has a detailed description and photos of my packing methods. A 1/48 Alb without too much white metal should ship this way fine. You'll need some fairly large boxes and a lot of fibre fill. Build a Smer 'Tross without paint and pack it and throw the box around and kick it a bit. I'm serious, I did that.
