Message-ID: <12AEB3D996DDD311B98A00508B6D75B30288C630@TUFAO> Some time ago someone asked how my friend Francisco Colaço had done the metal work on his stunning E-III. Well I've asked him and here's the answer: "I started by painting the cowling with Hammerit silver (robbialac) since I was under the impression from looking at photos that the metal had the "hamered" effect (note: hammerit paints produce this effect). I bought a 1/4 lt tin but I wasn't happy with the results, but I got a very high shine on the painted surface, so I left it to dry well. Afterwards I took a square tip nº6 brush and cut the bristles at mid-length. I prepared a black acrylic wash and applied it to the silver surface with vertical strokes. A coat of gloss varnish seal it off." Unfortunately it's not me the one who brings Roden kits to Sweden. I got my kits from Moscow, Russia. Friend of mine (Luftwaffe jet airplanes enthusiast) sent me the kit of Dagelow's Fokker and another I bought here in Riga, but almost twice more expensive than it could be done in Moscow (sadly I don't have Russian visa). By the way, I had very interesting experience with www.hobbyterra.com - once I discovered that they're Roden's main distributor. I contacted them as I wanted to purchase that new Albatros W4 and found out that they also stock old toko's kit of Hansa Brandenbur W29 (I find that plane's forms very attractive). But there was no price for HB kit and I asked them about it via the e-mail. I received the reply and they offered to make the purchase within their hobbyshop and they would send me that toko's old kit for free as it was without the decals. Unfortunately soon I discovered that I just can't pay with my credit card on the Internet.. CN> Hi Arseny, Welcome to the best modelling place on the net. Could cost you a fortune! Yes, I have, but it's nothing I can't get from elsewhere, for example NKR. There are a few things they should carry, though, like the Russian vac maker "Prop & Jet". Granted, nothing WW1, but early Soviet post-WW1 biplanes. I have a few coming from a contact in Latvia, and will let the list know what they are, and how they're molded when I get them (unless no one is interested). Now if only ICM would release their announced Polikarpov I-5s... Gee, I guess this whole message was off topic. I've kept an old machine alive just to run this, and live in fear of the day it keels over for good.. But I'm increasingly of the opinion that Neil's approach makes the most sense, as I hate having to sit down at the computer and update the indices. I would do a more thorough job if I was more timely in my efforts, and could perform the task while watching TV. I also hate all the duplicated effort; dozens of us, all over the world, entering the same data. A master index, on line, for all the appropriate publications...that's a worthwhile endeavor! I spend a little time partying with my local modeler friends, and I wind up with 168 messages, but I got through them. Tom,(Morgan) it took over an hour to clear my backlogged list messages, how could anyone catalogue their references in an hour (I have a 'file' too, it's a fair sized bookcase) Finally picked up the Roden 1/48 Strutters, and the extra parts alone make them a bargain, the Lewis guns are the best injection guns ever, as good as resin, and better than most of the white metal ones, IMHO. Welcome to new listees (better late (on my part)than never). -- Merrill Anderson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2003 20:09:44 +0000 From: dave.fleming@dial.pipex.com To: Subject: Re: Unsolicited Testimonial Message-ID: <1042488584.3e231d0852736@netmail.pipex.net> Quoting Crawford Neil : > So it's a Glostor.
