Please explain how you did that, as > I'm going to have to add it to the Choroszy kit . This was one of the hardest parts. I tried a lot of ways, even using thin aluminium foil. In the end what I did was to use thin plastic (.010). First I created a vacant rectangle where the exhaust channel would be, by cutting away the kit plastic. I also cut the front fuselage bulkhead. Then I measured the width of the vacant quasi-rectangle thus created at the front and at the rear .This would correspond to the width of the plastic channel (I did make allowance for the thickness of the plastic and for the fact that the sides of the channel slope inwards). I transfered the measurements to the plastic and I very lightly scored on the right and left sides of the rectangle, so as to be able to bend a tiny (1,5 mm wide maybe) flap. The flaps corresponded to the sides of the channel which would be glued onto the kit's plastic This was then done with liquid glue and left to dry throuroughly. Once dry any remaining holes and imperfections were dealt with with milliput. Harder to describe than to do. The variety in 1/72nd and 1/48th scales is quite astonishing, especially compared to about 10-12 years ago. Keep wishing for a Tamiya WW1 product - it won't help and it's hardly necessary: Eduard's recent releases are well within the Tamiya-quality range, in my view. In 1/72nd scale, they are set to release a Junkers J-1 and a De Haviland-2, which will keep me occupied and happy for a while to come. Roden is set to release a couple of SE5a's and a Bristol F.2B plus the multitude of Albatros that have been released by them in the past few months. Sure, we know there are a few well known WW1 aeroplanes that are not available but they are few and far between. Look at what IS available, take a look at your model stash, and ask yourself how many models you've built in the past 24 months. It sounds great, except - and he mentioned this - it seems like painting would be a bear. Who here uses this method? Also... I am considering making plastic-card/etched ring pieces patterned from the little Eduard etched inboard rigging-mounts for the Albatros. I'd love to use the etched part, but how in heck would I get a beentsy drill through that steel? Seems like Schnap City, to me. Oh, yeah, this is the truth - but everybody likes nice new stuff, right? Well, yes, the Oeffag D.II did need some filling but eventually it came out fine. Needed a fair amount of rescribe too as I recall. Build a couple of vacs then go back to a Roden kit - it'll seem like a pice of cake in comparison. >Ah, and if you are thinking of building one, be sure to shave the >front of >the engine or else the round front cover won't fir at all. Ah yes, the engine too. I wound up sanding off bits of that too - nothing the Dremel couldn't cope with in about 30 seconds though. These are $7 kits, so you have to reckon on some effort on the modeller's part.
