IIRC, it's a random orbital type. The footprint is triangular with rounded base angles, the base about 3 3/4 inches wide and rounded sides tapering to a point 5 1/4 inches from the base. If you are doing small jobs you can get diamond-shaped pieces of sandpaper, 1 1/2 inches on a side that attach to the tip. I intend to glue thin plastic strips to the flying surfaces on a magnet jig board which was discussed at length not too long ago. I think Larry Marshall posted some photos of his approach. Someone recently mentioned some thick sandable auto primer that I'm going to look for next week. I'm going to brush it along the strips, then sand in repeated steps to build up a curved surface to the rib . . . several times I'm sure. I built a "drying" box with a light bulb per RK's description and am hoping it will speed up the process. For small dimension, it was not too bad but on the Ilya, very difficult to fit without bending. After that, I discovered the DURAS method, the tail and the landing gear are rigged like that, but the top wing was already in place, so modeler block. Some time ago, I found some thin straight brass rod, I chemically darkened them and recently add them on the plane. Et voilà ! Eric D_Fernetti a écrit: >Eric! >Truly outstanding. John, I paint with the airbrush and the masking tape get's it done, but if I was brush painting I would run the side of the brush against the LE of the wing at a slight angle. I used a combination of magnetic strips purchased at the local hardware store for $1.29. They are in rolls with sticky backs. I peeled off the strips from the roll and put Scotch Tape on the backs to cover the sticky part. I used a large round tin lid to lay the lower wing/fuselage assembly onto and held it down by placing 2 magnetic strips chordwise across each lower wing's side. Then, I shaped Play-Doh into sort of cube shapes to hold up the upper wing - one piece for each side. First I glued the cabane (centre) strut assembly, and then the interplane struts. Worked well. I think people have used these materials previously, so my apologies for duplication of information.
