Bascially, the whole area was closed off as you do during NBC training, nobody but the team who did it was allowed to be on that part of the island. This virus killed 2.6 million people in Europe and maybe 20 million world-wide, does someone on the list know if it hit Germany a hard as the Aliies? One more related item, quite recently our Customs Museums was re-arranging some of their exhibits and found a couple of sugarcubes with hard-to-read labels which had been taken from a German spy/saboteur caught in Norway during WW1, his task had been to disrupt supplies to the Allies. They were somewhat surprised to learn that the cubes contained Anthrax spores that were still to be considered dangerous and all those who had handled them needed to go on anti-biotics as a precaution. Eders Knut Erik >Yesterday evening I watched by the National Geographic Channel (I'm slowly >leaving Discovery as it turned to be a channel full of hi-tech infomercials >and mating hyenas) a quite interesting show that described the modern >investigation of genetists about the Spanish Influenza pandemy that occurred >in 1918. IMHO they are both very nice!!! While I'm no expert they seem very good but I have no accurate drawings to go from, so I'll let someone with the correct references do a more accurate evaluation. The interiors are cast resin with the S.7 having a cowling top simular to the BM kit. The wind shield is vac-formed, 2 props & nose pieces to chose from & the cowling louvers are very delicate, nice PE fret & the decals look on register with both French & Italian markings. The Lloyd has beautifully molded details on both wings & fus with cast resin interior & engine with several bulkheads & many other items nicely done in resin. Decals for 3 aircraft are very nice & stencils are provided. You will like these two I believe. Best to all, Dale > Has any one actually "laid hands" on the new Special Hobby 1/48 (BEST > SCALE!) Kinko has 2 qualities of colour copiers. The one I got to use was the el-cheapo type ($1 per copy) and the colour fidelity was bad ! Despite that, and also it's not really OT (1903) Fully agreed - great book, and there was also a neat tv serfial based on it (I think it was a British-German coproduction. Another classic *fiction* book is Juhn Buchan's "Mr. Standfast" which is not only OT, but also involves aircraft in the showdown.. It's also available online at http://www.unityspot.com/arthurs/buchan.html It has been called a OT version of a James Bond story before, which is maybe a good description of it. As for *non fiction* spy books, there's obviously a lot on Mata Hari - just do a search at abebooks, and you'll be surprised how much exists. More on our favorite stuff, ther was a beautiful article on "Zeppelin Espionage" by the late Doug Robinson in an early OtF volume (should be vol 4 or 5). Really interesting reading. "The 39 steps" starred by the queer looking Robert Powell. There were a few movies about that novel. As Volker mentioned, there was also a movie of the "riddle of the sands" about the same time (starred by Michael York), and I watched the two at the cinema when I was a kid. It was a trend in those years, movies about that era.... I remember that the one I liked the most was "the four feathers". Well I imagine he knew pefectly well that his execution had nothing to do with that small pistol, that must have been an excuse. He was on the wrong side at the wrong time. Best stop talking about this, in case it gets too political. /Neil C.(born in Belfast!) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Sep 2002 12:51:33 +0200 From: Crawford Neil To: "'wwi@wwi-models.org'" Subject: Re: How to Get Relaxed, Deeper Sleep Message-ID: > > This is not spam. Apart from the very good advice about Microscale decal-saver, I would also add that I always try and find an easily replaced and preferably underside decal to start with. /Neil C: ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Sep 2002 12:54:33 +0200 (CEST) From: knut.erik.hagen@login-3.eunet.no (Knut Erik Hagen) To: wwi@wwi-models.org Subject: A Slow day Gotha Question Message-ID: <20020927105433.7E06D3442F@login-3.eunet.no> > >I had a look in the Gotha Special, and couldn't find any pictures >of the internal fuel tanks. Not me though! Lets give it a try: 175 UK Gallons in two tanks to liters in one tank. => 175 * 4.546 => 796 liters for two => 400 liters each (Germany was metric) Diameter in dm = Volume / Pi * length in dm) Diameter in dm = 400 / (3.14 * length in dm) Diameter = 127.3 / length in dm Diameter = 1273 / length in cm So if you know how wide the fuselage where the tanks are located, you can subtract a few cm for the fuselage structure and calculate the tank diameter by dividing 1273 by that values. But how do you know they were cylindrical? Actually if they're not it's easy because the height of the tanks is presumably the same as the height of the fuselage. Are there photos that show these tanks anywhere? /Neil C. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Sep 2002 08:09:29 -0300 From: "Diego Fernetti" To: "ww1 list" Subject: interesting french book site Message-ID: <01ad01c26616$59b764e0$4640a8c0@ssp.salud.rosario.gov.ar> Check this website. That's the problem with mensuration (The calculation of internal volume by measuring the outside dimensions) - nothing in life is simple !!
