I was particularily interested in the Pfalzen as I've an Ed. kit in 'the stack' and have been casting around for a different scheme for it. I take it that they're the usual Pfalz silver overall? No lozenge sneaking in on upper surfaces? You're right about the DVII, too nice colours... Regards Fraser Listees, for all those interested in Bavarian Jasta Markings: May I draw your attention to the latest additions to www.propellerblatt.de Please go to the 'download' section. All drawings are made by yours truly. I especially like the Fokker D VII, albeit no military numbers is known and the use of lozenge Tarnstoff for the fuselage is a little bit uncertain. Pilot unknown, also. But the color combination is great. So I'll try and start a thread, SP gracefully mentioned my name the other day, he said something about how unlikely it would be if I didn't get multiple copies of new Spad kits , as would Matt with Nieuports. I meant to comment this but was too busy, the thing is I wouldn't buy multiple Spad 7 or 13 kits, I'm not sure I'd even buy one. The reason is that I already have 5 Spad 13's and 4 Spad 7's built, and I feel more than finished, what would really get me going is a kit of any Spad (or Dep) that I haven't built. So the question is, which do you prefer multiple copies of one aircraft in different markings, or different aircraft in the same markings, or both, or neither, whatever. What I'm quietly hoping for is some new tool - and affordable - Nie.17s. Sure I'll pick up a Choroszy or three, but deep down I'm still hoping for Eduard to scale the 1/48th job properly. :-) I don't believe the EE "rumors" until I have the kits in hand. So, I do prefer multiple Nieuports in different markings. However, I'm also slowly enjoying more and more two-seaters - although the Amodel SPAD A.2 is kicking me, lately. :-) Another I have found to be a favorite is the *French* Strutters. Primarily because there's a lot there we don't know about, or is just now coming to light. Like the single-color machines being aluminum-doped. In light of everything, I'm thinking of taking the whole month of October off as far as web updates go (hopefully all my sites). I have four models now that are extremely close to being finished. A VVS P-39 that's just waiting on some red stars; the SPAD which is just waiting on some motivation from me (two more parts to add then I can start painting); a P-36G that needs new side-windows (otherwise it's finished); a couple of HB D.Is that are waiting decal ribs and then more paint; a BT-5 I hope to finish for our AMPS Regional next weekend; a T-26 that's getting close; etc. Too many in progress around my workbench, that's for sure. After pausing briefly to remove the shrink-wrap, I went directly to the section on the Morane-Saulnier type L. The description there raises a few questions: According to D&S, the type L had 3 fuel tanks. Two were located in the nose, tank on the right held 70 liters while the left held 34 liters. The assymmetry made it necessary to place counterweight in the **right** wing. (emphasis mine). My question is: why the counter-weight? If both tanks are used alternatingly in flight, no c-w is needed. If the either tank is drained first fully, then, doesnt the c-w cause imbalance while the two tanks are full? I had so far assumed that the left tank held oil.... Neil, If it is Albatri, Nieuports, or SPADs, I would like to have several of each in different markings. I have an affection for RFC types as well, however once I build one or two of each type, I think I will be done. I think that a lot of modelers, OT and ot, have a particuar soft spot for one or two special types, and enjoy building them over and over again in various incarnations. At first a little book with ca. 190 scaledrawings about wwi-birds and some historical background. And the second is the German issue of "Heroes in the Sunlit Sky" from Arch Whitehouse. This book contents many little short stories of the pilotaces of wwi. I'll never miss one of them. No lozenge hidden anywhere on those Pfalz. Aluminium pigmented nitrocellulose solved in amylacetat overall. Alu pigmented Zaponlack. Aka Pfalz silver grey. Hans P.S. Maybe the list chemist will shoot me down in flames. But that's what my Warenlexikon of 1920 tells me. And there is some evidence that the receipts found in Aircraft painter's guide of 1942 for fabric covered a/c were not much different from those of 1918. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fraser" To: "Multiple recipients of list" Sent: Tuesday, September 24, 2002 7:49 AM Subject: [WWI] New drawings of Jasta 16b Pfalz and Fokker available > Hans, > Nice work. I guess that Owl's Head website is linked to the WWI modelling page, so you can get a preview of what's about it there. Besides you can visit Dave Vosburgh in the deep woods of Mass. D. Well I think I can't get tired of Albatrosen or Nieuport 11s, but I want to build as many different airplanes as possible, because I like many of them. Then, when the time is right, I'll build some fancy paint schemes of my favs, but it's unlikely that I'll ever build more than one Rumpler C.IV, for instance. Ahh dreams! The MoS L had such a tiny rudder that it must have needed some help with torque. I guess... OT stuff is light, but they have a replica Sikorsky S.16, replica Fokker DR.1 from Rhinebeck, Escadrille Lafayette exhibit, and a lot of OT models (some by myself!)
