The virus simply grabs two addresses from the infected computer's addressbook and uses one for the From and the other for the To field. That is, they try to represent an actual grain pattern that probably would not be very visible in scale. There are a number of techniques that might be used instead, which you can find on the Cook-up site and in the archives. I use a multilayer of dry-brushing approach to give the impression of the shifting tones of wood without trying to draw tiny grain lines, myself. Steve Hustad actually draws 1/72nd grain on his models, which are certainly not to be sneezed at. That said, the decals work if you want to use them. Personally, I think the '1/72nd' scale ones should be used for 1/48th and the '1/48th' ones for 1/32nd or larger, were they to be used. They are not a bad representation, overall, and under a layer of yellow, orange, or brown tinted clear 'varnish' (as in Future, Kleer, or PolyScale Clear Gloss) would look quite good enough. Many think that you should save the cost of the decals, however. .Mark. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 14:25:15 +0100 From: Tom Gourdie To: "'wwi@wwi-models.org'" Subject: Re: Aeromaster wood paneling Message-ID: <02Sep17.142505bst.118114@ucas-firewall.ucas.ac.uk> Thanks Mark! Blue Rider's colors are usually quite good, IMHO. It seems to me that the decals are hard to get off the backing, but present no unusual problems after a good soaking. Wich made me think that we usually place OT related wallpepers in our computers, at least those of us using PCs. I also used Mark's work for a little variety from time to time (his Albatros on the hangar door made a dreamy background for my desktop for a while). So far i've had n my computer different artwrk from: - Jim Dietz ("To the Victor", "Circus Roll at Dawn", that one of the last MvR pre-flight) - Robert Karr (Wright Flyer, Sunset with Flamingoes and Zepp, Bavarian Fokker D.VII) - Pictures by Tom Cleaver (yes! our man in Mordor) - Pictures by Lee Mensinger (Jennies, Tommies and a Nieuport 28) - Different in-flight pictures by unknown photographers (AVRO 504K, SE5a and currently a Tummelisa) So what's on your screens when your computer is on?
